Presenting Gripweed Manifold (aka My Fiance’s Former Band)

In fact, it’s about a decade old. However, my fiance, John, didn’t have a copy of their first album, Planet Coke, until yesterday. Here’s a track that John wrote, sang, and played bass on. His brother Adam played rhythm guitar and Phil Van Kampen played lead guitar and drums. The band is no longer together, but they had some good songs (though some terrible mixing on their later albums, especially The Banner Year).
John’s voice sounds a bit strange on this track and we’ve been talking about whether he just doesn’t record well or if his voice has gotten that much better in the past 10 years. Of course, he was getting over a flu when they recorded the album, but he doesn’t sound quite the same as he does now on his later two albums either. Anyway, I’m very proud of him and wanted to share his talent with my readers.
